The Original Prusa I3 MK3 is the successor of the award-winning Original Prusa i3 MK2/S 3D printer. Our previous model is the winner of the 3D Printer Shootout 2017 and 2018 in prestigious MAKE: Magazine and for more than a year, it's the best desktop 3D printer according to 3Dhubs.com Trends. MK2S is also The Best 3D Printer for 2018 in "Workhorse" category on 3DHubs.com Guide with score 9.3 (the highest rated printer overall).
But the new MK3 is even better! With the rebuilt extruder, a plethora of sensors and the new magnetic MK52 heatbed with replaceable PEI spring steel print sheet we believe that we've developed our best 3D printer ever!
The most significant new features of Original Prusa i3 MK3
The new MK52 Magnetic HeatBed holds replaceable alloy spring steel sheet with PEI surface. We have three types of sheets - smooth PEI sheet, glossy powder coater PEI and textured powder coated PEI (which is the default option). Other kinds of sheets will be available to buy separately.
With the MK3 we are introducing the reworked Y axis from aluminum extrusion. It provides the same rigidity as some other printers while providing the sleek look of our milled Dural frame. The frame is also optimized to add 10 mm of Z height totaling at 210 mm.
Thanks to the new Trinamic2130 drivers and Noctua fan, MK3 is extremely quiet in the stealth mode. But also in normal mode is the printer quieter than 99 % of the available printers. In normal mode, we have also increased the printing speed. Now you can achieve more than 200 mm/s!
Did you ever tripped over the extension cord and lost a 20-hours print? MK3 will save you! The printer can fully recover from the loss of power. It detects power interruption and shuts down the heatbed and extruder heating. After restoring the power, you can continue with printing.
Our optical filament encoder detects the presence of a filament and also its movement. The MK3 can recognize running out of the filament, pause the print and ask the user to insert a new spool. We can also detect stuck filament and offer the user to clean the nozzle.
The new EINSY RAMBo motherboard with Trinamic drivers not only makes the MK3 silent but it also can detect skipped steps and layer shifting. This is a big step forward for the reliability of the printer and the user comfort. You can say goodbye to ugly prints!
The extruder is now upgraded to Bondtech drive gear. It grips the filament from both sides, increasing the push force and making the printer more reliable, especially for flexible filaments. Also, the print cooling fan now cools part from two sides, increasing the overhand performance.
MK3 has two new thermistors. The first one measures ambient temperature on the electronics, preventing MINTEMP errors in rooms with 15°C or less. The second one is embedded in the new PINDA 2 probe to compensate temperature drift. So the first layer will always be spot on!
E3D V6 is market-leading all metal hotend well known for its high-temperature performance. MK3 uses a custom heatbreak developed together with E3D. It has proven well its reliability in our Multi Material upgrade and continues to deliver great performance in surprisingly small form factor.

We are an established company founded in 2012, and we work hard to help you start 3D printing as soon as possible. We are providing full 24/7 customer support with live chat and e-mail in several languages. There are also unofficial user groups on Facebook, where makers help each other. You will never be alone in the big world of 3D printing!
The kit comes along with a forum support where our ever growing community can always help, or you can even get in touch with Jo Prusa himself at the very same spot! Check out the forum and regularly updated Knowledge Base!
With 3D printing, buying a printer is just a beginning!
Assembling the kit is an excellent first step to the world of 3D printing. You will understand the principles of printer construction and get a huge advantage when you need to solve possible problems and replacements later.
But don't worry. Assembling is quite easy! You don't have to solder at all to build our kit. You don't even have to own a soldering iron. All our cables are cut to length and with professionally crimped connectors. And from the electronics standpoint, the hardest thing will be plugging the connectors to the motherboard.
All of this makes the kit very friendly to younger builders :-)
We didn't want to leave anything to chance, so our assembly instructions are pictured to the smallest detail.
All fasteners and mechanical parts have 1:1 drawing so you can easily find them, and there is no chance of you picking a wrong one. You don't have to be MIT graduate to assemble our kit ;-)
Our fastest customer built the kit in 4 hours! Will you beat him?
We provide high print settings with the printer, so you don't have to dive into complex new programs the second you finish the build. You can start printing right away, and this gives you a great head start!
These settings are great for all kinds of objects, not just for a couple of prepared showpieces. After a while, when you're familiar with the printer, you can, of course, dive into tinkering ;-)
We are developing our own slicing software. In Slic3r Prusa Edition you can set everything you want. PrusaControl on the other side is focusing on casual users, and it's very easy to use. But of course, we also have the settings for the third party slicers like Simplify3D, Cura, etc.
One of the most popular features of Original Prusa i3 concept is upgradability. If you buy our 3D printer, you can upgrade it later to the new version, so you don't need to buy the whole new model every two years as you get used to for example with your phone or laptop. :-)
Upgrades are a great way not only for saving money, but also to learn about the construction of the printer's hardware. We are constantly improving our technology. A few years ago there was the Original Prusa i3 3mm which was upgradable to the Original Prusa i3 Plus 1.75mm (MK1). This printer can become MK2S thanks to the next big upgrade and then you can go even for the latest MK3 (or MK2.5 if you wish).
Original Prusa i3 MK3 Multi Material is the unique consumer option to print with up to 4 different materials simultaneously. The use of up to 4 material feeders with only one hotend makes the solution calibration free and much easier to use than currently available systems.
Multi-material could be your next step in the 3D printing world and MK3 is completely ready for the upgrade.
BTW: Do you know, that you can easily print soluble interface supports with Multi Material upgrade? We have a pretty smart solution for you - check out the video!
Prusa Research is a 3D printing company based in Prague, Czech Republic. It was founded by Josef Prusa, one of the core developers of the Open Source project RepRap, in 2012 as a one-man startup and grows to a 160+ team now.
