More info

After more than a year of a continuous development of the Original Prusa i3 MK3 we are introducing MK3S - the enhanced and improved revision of the MK3

WITH THE ORIGINAL PRUSA i3 MK3S WE ARE INTRODUCING:

NEW FILAMENT SENSOR

The previous sensor didn’t work well with some specific filaments. The new sensor is using the optical sensor which is triggered by a simple mechanical lever. This sensor doesn’t care about the optical properties of the filament and cannot die because of mechanical wear.

BETTER SERVICE & PRINTS

Thanks to completely reworked extruder changing the nozzle or PTFE tube is easier than ever before. As a bonus, the nozzle and the extruder motor is much closer to the X axis, this means less resonance and better prints too. MK3S is also better for printing from flexible materials.

DOZENS OF TWEAKS

MK3S includes all the cumulative upgrades from the entire life cycle of the MK3 like genuine Gates belts, textile sleeves, a new Einsy case for easier Raspberry Pi connection, an anti-rust coating on smooth PEI sheets and, of course, dozens of firmware and plastic parts enhancements.

The Original Prusa i3 MK3/S is the "Best 3D printer" according to All3DP.com and MAKE: Magazine, where MK3/S also received "Editor's Choice" as the highest-rated 3D printer in 2019 Digital Fabrication Guide. The MK3S features a rebuilt extruder, numerous sensors, and various smart features. Plus, a new magnetic MK52 heatbed with replaceable PEI spring steel print sheet. Dozens of various tweaks and upgrades improve the reliability and ease of use. MK3S‘s functionality can be further expended with the unique Multi-Material Upgrade 2S addon for printing with up to 5 materials simultaneously.

WHAT WE ARE PROUD OF...

The most significant features of Original Prusa i3 MK3S

REMOVABLE HEATBED

The new MK52 Magnetic HeatBed holds a replaceable alloy spring steel sheet with a PEI surface. You can choose between two types of sheets - smooth PEI sheet (default option, already available) and textured powder coated PEI (this will be available later).

FRAME STABILITY

With the MK3S we are introducing the reworked Y axis from aluminum extrusion. It provides the same rigidity as some other printers while providing the sleek look of our milled Dural frame. The frame is also optimized to add 10 mm of Z height totaling at 210 mm.

SILENT & FASTER PRINTING

Thanks to the new Trinamic2130 drivers and Noctua fan, the MK3S is extremely quiet in the stealth mode. But the MK3S is quieter than 99 % of the available printers, even in the Normal mode. In normal mode, we have also increased the printing speed. Now you can achieve more than 200 mm/s!

POWER PANIC

Have you ever tripped over the extension cord and lost a 20-hours print? MK3S will save you! The printer can fully recover from the loss of power. It detects power interruption and shuts down the heatbed and extruder heating. After restoring the power, you can continue with printing.

FILAMENT SENSOR

With MK3S we are introducing a completely reworked extruder with a new filament sensor. The new sensor is using the optical sensor which is triggered by a simple mechanical lever. This sensor doesn’t care about the optical properties of the filament (it can be completely invisible) and cannot die because of mechanical wear.

PREVENTS SHIFTED LAYERS

The new EINSY RAMBo motherboard with Trinamic drivers not only makes the MK3S silent but it also can detect skipped steps and layer shifting. This is a big step forward in the reliability of the printer and the user comfort. You can say goodbye to ugly prints!

BONDTECH EXTRUDER

The extruder has now upgraded with Bondtech drive gear. It grips the filament from both sides, increasing the push force and making the printer more reliable. This is useful especially for flexible filaments. Also, the print fan now cools part from two sides, increasing the overall performance.

P.I.N.D.A. 2 PROBE

MK3S has two new thermistors. The first one measures ambient temperature on the electronics, preventing MINTEMP errors in rooms with 15°C or less. The second one is embedded in the new P.I.N.D.A. 2 probe to compensate for temperature drift. So the first layer will always be spot on!

E3D V6 NOZZLE

E3D V6 is market-leading all metal hotend well known for its high-temperature performance. The MK3S utilizes a custom heatbreak developed together with E3D. The reliability has proved in our Multi Material upgrade and continues to deliver great performance in surprisingly small form factor.

WHY DO YOU WANT ORIGINAL PRUSA I3 KIT?

Great support

We are an established company founded in 2012, and we work hard to help you start 3D printing as soon as possible. We are providing full 24/7 customer support with live chat and e-mail in several languages. There are also unofficial user groups on Facebook, where makers help each other. You will never be alone in the big world of 3D printing!

The kit comes along with a forum support where our ever growing community can always help, or you can even get in touch with Jo Prusa himself at the very same spot! Check out the forum and regularly updated Knowledge Base!

With 3D printing, buying a printer is just a beginning!

Fun to assemble

Assembling the kit is an excellent first step to the world of 3D printing. You will understand the principles of printer construction and get a huge advantage when you need to solve possible problems and replacements later.

But don't worry. Assembling is quite easy! You don't have to solder at all to build our kit. You don't even have to own a soldering iron. All our cables are cut to length and with professionally crimped connectors. And from the electronics standpoint, the hardest thing will be plugging the connectors to the motherboard.

All of this makes the kit very friendly to younger builders :-)

Best assembly instructions and free 3D Printing handbook

We didn't want to leave anything to chance, so our assembly instructions are pictured to the smallest detail.

See the assembly manual for yourself!

All fasteners and mechanical parts have 1:1 drawing so you can easily find them, and there is no chance of you picking a wrong one. You don't have to be MIT graduate to assemble our kit ;-)

Our fastest customer built the kit in 4 hours! Will you beat him?

Ready to print settings

We provide high print settings with the printer, so you don't have to dive into complex new programs the second you finish the build. You can start printing right away, and this gives you a great head start!

These settings are great for all kinds of objects, not just for a couple of prepared showpieces. After a while, when you're familiar with the printer, you can, of course, dive into tinkering ;-)

We are developing our own slicing software. In Slic3r Prusa Edition you can set everything you want. PrusaControl on the other side is focusing on casual users, and it's very easy to use. But of course, we also have the settings for the third party slicers like Simplify3D, Cura, etc.

Upgradability

One of the most popular features of Original Prusa i3 concept is upgradability. If you buy our 3D printer, you can upgrade it later to the new version, so you don't need to buy the whole new model every two years as you get used to for example with your phone or laptop. :-)

Upgrades are a great way not only for saving money, but also to learn about the construction of the printer's hardware. We are constantly improving our technology. A few years ago there was the Original Prusa i3 3mm which was upgradable to the Original Prusa i3 Plus 1.75mm (MK1). This printer can become MK2S thanks to the next big upgrade and then you can go even for the latest MK3S (or MK2.5S if you wish).

Ready for the Multi Material Upgrade 2S

Original Prusa i3 MK3S Multi Material 2S is the unique consumer option to print with up to 5 different materials simultaneously. MMU2S comes with a redesigned body and a new filament loading mechanism. Instead of the previous Bowden system. The motorized selector head has a F.I.N.D.A filament sensor and a built-in blade, which prevents filament jamming.

Multi-material could be your next step in the 3D printing world and MK3S is completely ready for the upgrade.

BTW: Do you know, that you can easily print soluble interface supports with Multi Material upgrade? We have a pretty smart solution for you - check out the video!

Pretty Amazing Printer.

I already owned three other 3D printers. Two from a very closed-source company (in hindsight, not a good choice) and one from a kickstarter. I always had problems from bad bed leveling and adhesion, slow time, and excessively loud printing! However, after a couple weeks of browsing across different companies, I thought this was the best choice.

I bought the kit for $750. Got the MMU2 pre-emptively but that's a different story. My kit was equipped with the double-sided PEI steel sheet, and everything in the instructions was crystal-clear in a shiny book. All parts were included in the kit (nothing missing or broken) and the only broken part was my fault, but luckily I had a spare printer to make a new printed part.
Instructions are very clear; it's not hard, just time consuming! Make sure you're extra careful with the extruder assembly, but nothing else was notably difficult.
The features on this machine sure were delivered! The loudest part is the cooling fan, quieter than any of my other printers without a fan running. The sheet printbed is amazingly convenient, and even though it isn't plug-and-play, once you have it set up once it requires minimal maintenance.
I have amassed 750+ printing hours in 4 months on this machine. I've had maybe 2 or 3 prints that failed not because of filament. That power panic/recovery comes in handy!
If this is in your price range, I HIGHLY suggest getting this printer, or a higher model if you're reading this in 2025 or something. You will not get a better machine for this price.
I hope this helps, and good luck!
Mathieu

Amazing DIY machine

It is now 9 month when it's printing day by day with no holidays. The original parts really does it's job. You will not find magnetic bed like this in other printer. Although if esthetics isn't really best for a home machine, instead of this you get best access to repair. If something broke just change it and go !

Blown away by this kit!

This is my 2nd 3D printer. The first was a pre-assembled/pre-calibrated under $200 printer I received as a Christmas give and have been hooked ever since!

I researched the best printers under $1000 and found the Prusa brand. For all the features it delivers and reliability, I knew I found my next 3D printer.

Ordered it on 1/3/19 and received it on 1/14/19. Took me three days working on it after work to complete the build. The instructions were clear and concise and when I did have questions or issues, the comments by other buyers for each section were very helpful and saved my butt a few times.

Was very nervous turning it on the first time but it booted right up, calibrated everything just fine, and had no setup issues.

Ran my first test calibration print, the 3D Benchy, and holy carp did it print basically perfect! Josef, you have an amazing printer AND company!

Amazing

I received my kit a week ago and had fun building it, it came out perfect! When printing it basically takes care of itself, no more frustration with bed leveling or bed surface issues. I was thinking $750 was a lot to spend but even though it is twice the price of my first printer it is worth every cent.

Excellent kit and machine

I assembled it slowly but the instructions were clear and complete. The kit instructions are the best I have ever seen. The machine worked without a hitch and makes great prints without any special tuning.
My only comments are (1) the spares kit could include one heated bed spacer - that was the one part I dropped and dearly lost & it does not match anything from my extensive junk pile, and (2) perhaps the design could use an additional zip tie at the base where wires come very close to the x-axis bearings, and (3) perhaps add a warning to keep fingertips to the far edges of the build plate - first time I did not realize how strong the magnets are and got a pinch.

I was ready to give up and then I got a Prusa.

I don't usually write reviews, You know, I'm a guy and reviews seem a bit like sharing feelings and thoughts, so its not my "Safe zone". Anyway, I just had to write this review because I was completely blown away by the entire experience in purchasing my Prusa i3 MK3 kit. Checkout was simple and the communication on order status and shipping was top notch. When I got the printer it was packaged in a very secure way. Noway these things come damaged. The instruction... wow.. such nice instructions. The people who wrote them should get an award for technical writing or something. I couldn't have asked for a more complete and easy to follow assembly. Don't get me wrong, it takes awhile (several hours) but it is so easy and fun because you really learn how the thing works in the process of putting it together. You can really tell a lot of engineering went into this. Such innovation and really an impressive design. It is so easy to use and this thing, is smart. So smart, I would say its smarter than the average user. It self calibrates and walks you thru all of the settings needed to get everything going. Anyone can use it. So before I got the Prusa, I bought a popular model from Asia. Everything went wrong. No support, missing parts, over priced, I still haven't gotten it to work right. I was ready to give up on the hobby as I started to realize I had more failed prints than successful ones. So I decided to try the MK3 and boy I am so glad I did. Now I finally know how awesome this hobby really is. I just ordered the MMU 2.0 upgrade and I can't wait to use it. One of the things that helped me decide on getting the Prusa was all of the videos on youtube of Mr Prusa and his staff. I am very impressed with everyone and their new facility. From the bottom of my heart. BTW Mr Prusa, your print farm is sooo cool. I wish I could visit and see it in person.

Thank you for such a great product and service
Chris

Best Printer Ever

I am new to 3D printing but this is my second printer. I originally purchased a cr10s 500. I had bed adhesion and bed leveling issues. It was poorly constructed. The Prusa however was amazing. Putting it together was a lot of fun for me. The instructions were super clear. The print quality is completely dominating in comparison to other printers. I have not had a single failed print after getting my z adjusted correctly. I love this printer and I will probably always purchase Prusa printers from here on out.
