More info

After more than a year of a continuous development of the Original Prusa i3 MK3 we are introducing MK3S - the enhanced and improved revision of the MK3.

WITH THE ORIGINAL PRUSA i3 MK3S WE ARE INTRODUCING:

NEW FILAMENT SENSOR

The previous sensor didn’t work well with some specific filaments. The new sensor is using the optical sensor which is triggered by a simple mechanical lever. This sensor doesn’t care about the optical properties of the filament and cannot die because of mechanical wear.

BETTER SERVICE & PRINTS

Thanks to completely reworked extruder changing the nozzle or PTFE tube is easier than ever before. As a bonus, the nozzle and the extruder motor is much closer to the X axis, this means less resonance and better prints too. MK3S is also better for printing from flexible materials.

DOZENS OF TWEAKS

MK3S includes all the cumulative upgrades from the entire life cycle of the MK3 like genuine Gates belts, textile sleeves, a new Einsy case for easier Raspberry Pi connection, an anti-rust coating on smooth PEI sheets and, of course, dozens of firmware and plastic parts enhancements.

The Original Prusa i3 MK3/S is the "Best 3D printer" according to All3DP.com and MAKE: Magazine, where MK3/S also received "Editor's Choice" as the highest-rated 3D printer in 2019 Digital Fabrication Guide. The MK3S features a rebuilt extruder, numerous sensors, and various smart features. Plus, a new magnetic MK52 heatbed with replaceable PEI spring steel print sheet. Dozens of various tweaks and upgrades improve the reliability and ease of use. MK3S‘s functionality can be further expanded with the unique Multi-Material Upgrade 2S addon for printing with up to 5 materials simultaneously. Below, you can see some of the many 3D printer awards Prusa Research received.

WHAT WE ARE PROUD OF...

The most significant features of Original Prusa i3 MK3S

REMOVABLE HEATBED

The new MK52 Magnetic HeatBed holds a replaceable alloy spring steel sheet with a PEI surface. You can choose between two types of sheets - smooth PEI sheet (default option, already available) and textured powder coated PEI (this will be available later).

FRAME STABILITY

With the MK3S we are introducing the reworked Y axis from aluminum extrusion. It provides the same rigidity as some other printers while providing the sleek look of our milled Dural frame. The frame is also optimized to add 10 mm of Z height totaling at 210 mm.

SILENT & FASTER PRINTING

Thanks to the new Trinamic2130 drivers and Noctua fan, the MK3S is extremely quiet in the stealth mode. But the MK3S is quieter than 99 % of the available printers, even in the Normal mode. In normal mode, we have also increased the travel speed. Now you can achieve up to 200 mm/s!

POWER PANIC

Have you ever tripped over the extension cord and lost a 20-hours print? MK3S will save you! The printer can fully recover from the loss of power. It detects power interruption and shuts down the heatbed and extruder heating. After restoring the power, you can continue with printing.

FILAMENT SENSOR

With MK3S we are introducing a completely reworked extruder with a new filament sensor. The new sensor is using the optical sensor which is triggered by a simple mechanical lever. This sensor doesn’t care about the optical properties of the filament (it can be completely invisible) and cannot die because of mechanical wear.

PREVENTS SHIFTED LAYERS

The new EINSY RAMBo motherboard with Trinamic drivers not only makes the MK3S silent but it also can detect skipped steps and layer shifting. This is a big step forward in the reliability of the printer and the user comfort. You can say goodbye to ugly prints!

BONDTECH EXTRUDER

The extruder has now upgraded with Bondtech drive gear. It grips the filament from both sides, increasing the push force and making the printer more reliable. This is useful especially for flexible filaments. Also, the print fan now cools part from two sides, increasing the overall performance.

P.I.N.D.A. 2 PROBE

MK3S has two new thermistors. The first one measures ambient temperature on the electronics, preventing MINTEMP errors in rooms with 15°C or less. The second one is embedded in the new P.I.N.D.A. 2 probe to compensate for temperature drift. So the first layer will always be spot on!

E3D V6 NOZZLE

E3D V6 is market-leading all metal hotend well known for its high-temperature performance. The MK3S utilizes a custom heatbreak developed together with E3D. The reliability has proved in our Multi Material upgrade and continues to deliver great performance in surprisingly small form factor.

With 3D printing, buying a printer is just a beginning!

Fun to assemble

Assembling the kit is an excellent first step to the world of 3D printing. You will understand the principles of printer construction and get a huge advantage when you need to solve possible problems and replacements later.

But don't worry. Assembling is quite easy! You don't have to solder at all to build our kit. You don't even have to own a soldering iron. All our cables are cut to length and with professionally crimped connectors. And from the electronics standpoint, the hardest thing will be plugging the connectors to the motherboard.

All of this makes the kit very friendly to younger builders :-)

Best assembly instructions and free 3D Printing handbook

We didn't want to leave anything to chance, so our assembly instructions are pictured to the smallest detail.

See the assembly manual for yourself!

All fasteners and mechanical parts have 1:1 drawing so you can easily find them, and there is no chance of you picking a wrong one. You don't have to be MIT graduate to assemble our kit ;-)

Our fastest customer built the kit in 4 hours! Will you beat him?

Ready to print settings

We provide high print settings with the printer, so you don't have to dive into complex new programs the second you finish the build. You can start printing right away, and this gives you a great head start!

These settings are great for all kinds of objects, not just for a couple of prepared showpieces. After a while, when you're familiar with the printer, you can, of course, dive into tinkering ;-)

We are developing our own slicing software. PrusaSlicer is a feature-rich, frequently updated tool that contains everything you need to export the perfect print files for your Original Prusa 3D printer. But of course, we also have the settings for the third party slicers like Simplify3D, Cura, etc.

Upgradability

One of the most popular features of Original Prusa i3 concept is upgradability. If you buy our 3D printer, you can upgrade it later to the new version, so you don't need to buy the whole new model every two years as you get used to for example with your phone or laptop. :-)

Upgrades are a great way not only for saving money, but also to learn about the construction of the printer's hardware. We are constantly improving our technology. A few years ago there was the Original Prusa i3 3mm which was upgradable to the Original Prusa i3 Plus 1.75mm (MK1). MK1 printer can become MK2S thanks to the next big upgrade and then you can go even for the latest MK3S (or MK2.5S if you wish).

Discount program for Original Prusa i3 kit owners

Our discount program for the Original Prusa i3 kit owners gives you a 5% discount on subsequent orders of selected filaments, including the high-precision Prusament!

How does it work?

To enter the discount program, you only need to purchase your first Original Prusa i3 kit for the full price. After the i3 kit is delivered to you, your Prusa account automatically applies the 5% discount on the selected filaments. So next time you'll be stocking up on filaments you can take advantage of the 5% discount :-). Make sure to be always logged into your Prusa account, to have the discount applied.

Ready for the Multi Material Upgrade 2S

Original Prusa i3 MK3S Multi Material 2S is the unique consumer option to print with up to 5 different materials simultaneously. MMU2S comes with a redesigned body and a new filament loading mechanism. Instead of the previous Bowden system. The motorized selector head has a F.I.N.D.A filament sensor and a built-in blade, which prevents filament jamming.

Multi-material could be your next step in the 3D printing world and MK3S is completely ready for the upgrade.

BTW: Do you know, that you can easily print soluble interface supports with Multi Material upgrade? We have a pretty smart solution for you - check out the video!

AWESOME!!!

I’ve assembled many kits of all kinds and as a medical CT engineer I’m always building something but this kit is BY FAR the best, most well specced, well packaged and well supported project I’ve ever set eyes on. The manuals are superb in every detail. You can instantly tell this kit was put together by people who are proud and care. Well done guys! Sooo pleased!

    An Outstanding Kit

I ordered my kit on 28 Nov 2019. Prusa shipped on the next day. Remarkably, it took longer to get it from the Eastern United States to Colorado than it did from Europe to the United States.

The kit was packaged as well as any product I've ever seen - very orderly and secure. Everything is identified by the step to which it applies, so it's almost impossible to go wrong. The manuals are without a doubt the best in any business I've been involved with.

The build took me about 5 days working about 2-3 hours a day. After going through all the calibration steps, the first prints worked perfectly. I did have a minor issue with te IR sensor adjustment upon changing filament, but inserting two 0.015" thick fiber washers under the sensor corrected the problem (and a very helpful chat with tech support).

The only things I'd say are needed during assembly are a pair of diagonal cutters to clip the zip ties with and I found a few places where an X-acto knife was helpful to clean up the strings from the 3D printed parts in a few critical areas.

It's just an excellent printer, and the slicing S/W couldn't be easier to use.

    Well done, Prusa!

    Outstanding FDM printer under $1K

I've owned two other FDM printers (China brands). They both work but the Prusa is a workhorse! Printing non-stop with minimal maintenance. The quality of the parts, the automation built in, the prusaslicer, the excellent customer support, and excellent owner community makes this the best of the best. Thank you Joseph...Keep up the excellent work!

    Best Printer So Far

I own 4 other printers, like K8400, MEGA, Linear Plus, MPSM V1.
this one was an easy assembling and it was working out of the box.
I had 2 issue, my U-holder was hitting the frame (I filed it down a little) and one of the trapezoidal nuts was not fitting on one rod.
This was replaced by support in under 2 days. From talking (Sunday) to delivery (Tuesday).
So, I can recomment this printer as far as I have used it. The time will tell the probs, if any, but for now, a perfect printer.
    And a very reliable support.

Hands down the best FDM printer I've ever done printing with, including a 10 000€ printer I had at work. Really amazed by this kit, very strong recommendation to anyone seeking a home printer in this price range.

        Buyer decision

        Hello human,
so you'r here and think about buying an Prusa. Well, I don't help you with talking about how good this printer is (...as you already know). But maybe I can help you to make a decision.

First of all, lets talk about who I am:
I am Tom, working as an electrical and mechanical engineer for one of the leading premium car manufacturers in Germany. So I'm in too how keep machines alive, program them, buy them, repair them (robots and such fun stuff).

Now lets talk about who you are:
        a) Your a tech geek who wants to take first steps in additive manufacturing for his self
        b) Your planing a small business selling 3d printed parts
        c) Your looking for a bad weather hobby

If you are type C, have a nice day. This is not what you are looking for. If you are Type A or B this is your machine, buy it before your wife see it!

Why? First of all, you get an well engineered and produced machine! No it's not a toy it's a machine. I already owned a Anycubic i3 and I can tell you: This 500 bucks cheaper printer works too well and you can get nearly the same results as with an Prusa BUT:
        a) invest a LOT (yep a LOT) of time finding the wright parameters printing parts you designed or coming from the internet, did I say a LOT?
        b) printing more then a few hours shows you how durable this machine is which means that you can print a hundred (confirmed) or maybe a thousand of hours without getting bigger problems... if you own a Prusa

And if your a little bit into machines than you know how important it is to get a durable and stable one. Things like filament handling, filament runout handling, self calibration, error handling are UNIQUE (oh that was caps...) to this printer and make your life a lot easier (..did I mention that massive TIME you save?)

ALSO (that much reading, you nearly have it!) the support is fantastic. I had a problem with the poor bearings (yeah they poor, but they are all poor in stock) on SUNDAY 5 AM (did I caps this?) and I got my repair parts on the following Thursday.. Any words?

Human, it's unimportant if you're new or printing like a master... The Prusa is a good choice. They are kind, they are the inventor (support the inventor!!!), they giving something back to the community in Prague and they are using the product you'll buy because they know how good it is.
Travel to Prague, take a free tour in the Prusa Fab and decide to buy a good product!
        Thanks for reading

I have 10 of these now and WILL NOT buy any other type of FDM printer.

They are reliable and consistent and just meet the demands we place on them.

We plan to buy another bundle over the coming year and the new Mini looks like a possible early start for this plan as the foot print will allow us double the number for space ration.

Great tool Prusa Team keep it up.

        Flawless Printer

I've owned several printers, some good and some bad. None of them come close to touching the overall quality of the MK3S. Every facet of the device is made to higher quality standards than anything else I've ever seen. I've even done some comparisons between prints I've done with this against some that were created with $3000+ consumer and commercial printers and the Prusa wins easily every time. After working with this one, I'm without a doubt a fan for life.

        Great 3D printer

I had used a Creality Ender 3 and had a little experience. The Prusa mk3 is awesome in terms of ease of use. The auto bed leveling is so convenient. It is also incredibly quiet. In stealth mode you can have it running in the next room at night and not hear it at all. Well worth the cost. Building it took a while, about 6 hours but I'd never done anything like that before and was very careful. Worked perfectly first time I turned it on.
