WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

MANUFACTURED IN-HOUSE BY JOSEF PRUSA

We were not satisfied with the quality of filaments on the market. So we decided to make our own! Prusa Research is the only 3D printer manufacturer with its own filament production.

PREMIUM-GRADE MATERIALS AND THOROUGH TESTING

The whole manufacturing process is closely monitored and tested – string diameter, color consistency, and mechanical properties – to make sure that every spool is perfect.

± 0.02 MM MANUFACTURING PRECISION

We believe the industry standard of 0.05 mm isn’t sufficient for perfect 3D printing. Instead, we guarantee ±0.02mm precision and highly-consistent colors in our filaments.

HIGH QUALITY YOU CAN CHECK YOURSELF

We are the only manufacturer that gives customers the option to fully inspect parameters of every filament spool. Just scan a QR code on the spool to see all details online (check the sample spool).

ABOUT PLA

PLA melts at a relatively low temperature of about 175 degrees Celsius. Unlike so-called thermoset materials, PLA can be heated past its melting point multiple times with very little degradation. It’s a hard material, but that also means it’s somewhat brittle, and once it breaks, it likes to shatter. Only this material is proven for 50 microns layer height.

However, PLA is not a perfect material and, just like every other plastic, has some disadvantages. The low melting temperature also means low-temperature resistance. Parts start to lose mechanical strength at temperatures over 60 °C.

The combination of being both biodegradable and having low-temperature resistance means that it’s not ideal for outdoor use, not to mention low UV-resistance. Also, PLA is only soluble in chemicals like chloroform or hot benzene. So when connecting multiple pieces, you’re better off using just glue.

Even though PLA is biodegradable, and the material on its own is food safe, we do not suggest to repeatedly drink or eat from your 3D prints. Because of the small fractures on the print surface, bacteria can build up in there over time. You can prevent this by applying a food-safe coating. When post-processing PLA, it’s better to use wet sanding. Without water you'll quickly start heating the plastic by friction, it will melt locally and make it hard to keep sanding.

Seriously impressed

I've been printing for years, always upgrading and trying to get the best out of my machines, but I always went with cheaper or more readily available filaments. I FINALLY decided to try Prusament out, and I don't think I'll ever be able to go back. Minimum dialing in needed, and it's just so beautiful. This is my go-to filament from now on.

My favorite filament

This is by far my favorite filament. It looks really nice when printed with the glitter finish, and does an excellent job hiding the layer lines even without post processing.

This filament also looks really cool if you sand it to a smooth finish, and then put a clear varnish over it. The glitter really pops when you do this.

Fantastic Filament

This was the filament I got with my Prusa Mini. Once I got the machine running properly, it required no adjustments to print near-perfection. Bridging was excellent, first layer adhesion was perfect, and I had no extrusion layer lines.

The matt black combined with the galaxy sparkles look fantastic, and help hide the layer lines that naturally occur in FDM printing.

Great Filament

I've heard a bunch of people say online the filament was very high quality and tried it for myself. I used the same Gcode file for 2 benchy's one with prusament and one with hatchbox PLA. The prusa benchy came out so much better that I am only going to be using prusament PLA for the repeatablity and reliability that it has shown. I was also slightly worried about how the glitter would print in the PLA, but other than running a few degrees warmer, the print settings are the same and the results are still stunning. It's worth the extra few dollars per spool for the prusament PLA.

Perfect Quality

The images used to sell this filament don't do it justice, it looks a million times better in person, it also gives the printed pieces a texture that is amazing to feel.

Closest Thing to Injection Molding

This filament is by far the best filament out there for high quality parts. The "Glitter" helps hide the layer lines, making the parts look smooth and clean.

I hope they add to their Glitter Prusaments with a dark Gray color. That would be awesome.

    A true Galaxy wonder

    This stuff is truly mesmerising.

Prints super easily, has great physical properties and is super pretty.

As with all Prusaments, does not disappoint!

    Awesome all-round filament.

Best Filament I have ever used

This filament is the best, in terms of filament quality, printing quality, winding, well all aspects.

      My favorite filament.

        Nice looking, but constantly jamming

I almost killed my extruder fighting with this filament. Tried different temps, different tensions - always getting jams. Once i even couldn't remove the jammed filament. Not worth the money, sadly.
