Max Temp Error Message

May 21, 2018 3:28 pm

Just finished assembly of my Mk2.5 upgrade and now need to do the firmware upgrade.
The only problem is that as soon as I switch the printer on I get an almost immediate "Max Temp" error message accompanied by a piercing whistle.
Checked all the connectors in the Rambo box and can't see anything obviously wrong.
What have I done wrong?
Also:
I note that there are two version of the firmware available for flashing the Rambo. How do I determine which version of the Rambo board I have.

Just finished mine today and had same problem. Opened CHAT and talked to tech. He/she said I should check connections on RAMBO, do so "multiple" times and same result. Also, Prusa needs to make the chat more available. Still don't know how I get to it. Just see it pop up on screen.

Just a follow up on my first post above.
Having completed the 2.5 upgrade and switching the machine on, as stated above, the machine gave the Max Temp Error warning. When reset was pressed the nozzle temperature reading was 739 C. Obviously wrong as the nozzle was cold. Checked the Rambo connections and found no problems.
The fact the the nozzle temperature reading was so high indicated an open circuit thermistor, so ordered a new one from Prusa. Connecting the new thermistor into the Rambo (without installing it into the hot end) showed everything OK.
So out with the hot end, easier said than done. Tried to remove the thermistor using 1.5mm hex key to undo the grub screw - screw wouldn't budge. Wrecked two hex keys before I gave up and ordered a new block from E3D together with a new heat break just in case. Now waiting for E3D to deliver, should be here in a day or two.

Hi Peter and Merrill,
as you both have the same problem it seems to me there might be some issues with the hardware. I will forward this to the support and my colleagues will get in touch with you.

Hi Guys,

Maxtemp is normally caused by the thermistor being low resistance or short circuit.

can you try unplugging the offending thermistor from the rambo board and seeing if the MaxTemp error changes to MinTemp error
if it does, then it is confirming that your thermistor is faulty, in which case, check your cable routing and particularly zip ties and tight bends in the cables.

you are looking for short circuits...

if you find damaged insulation you can do a temporary repair with tape or patch the wires out with soldered joints and heat shrink tubing,
the thermistor is not polarity sensitive, so it doesn't matter if you get the wires the wrong way round...
mage sure the repair joints are NOT in the section of cable that flexes so put them inside the rambo case and on the Hardware at the other end

And after you fix the problem, don't forget to plug the thermistor back in!

Dear Prusa,

I builded the prusa anet a6 sinds december 2018 and I'm having a MAXTEMP error since I started it up. It started printing wich I had to abort. From that moment on there is this error and there is nothing i can seem to do about it. I bought a new board, thermistor and heatingelement....still the same error. Like to get some support with it please
