X endstop not being hit after upgrade to 2.5

Sep 17, 2018 5:37 pm

Hey everyone, I saw a few posts that seem similar but not exact to my issue. So my problem is that after assembling the mk2.5 upgrade my X carriage never gets even close to the endstop. This is with the pieces provided by prusa, not printed by me.

I'm not talking mm, but over a centimeter away in the y direction. I managed to get it to hit by hot gluing a piece of the retired mk2s, but it looks ugly, pops off sometimes, and seems to be preventing the self test from completing as it can't find the sensor in the heatbed.

I'm not at my printer at this very moment, but I can attach an image later if you guys think it'll help diagnose the issue. Thanks in advance to any help you guys can give! This printer has just been giving me problem after problem, the 2.5 upgrade was an attempt to fix them all :(

Edit: Here are the pictures. It's a little hard to see, but you can see the distance between the X carriage and the endstop.

Firts thing to do is remove the IGUS bearings from the x-axis and use the standard bearings. It is an extra variable and a modification from the original design that can make trouble shooting difficult.

I just swapped the IGUS bearings in as a troubleshooting measure, actually. They're just a tiny bit thinner than the originals so I thought they might bring it closer to the endstop, which it did. I've torn the whole thing down and reassembled 3 times now and it definitely appears to be a problem with the location the endstop is mounted, although I'm not sure if it's because I have an old model of the mk2s or I didn't get a part I was supposed to with the 2.5 upgrade.

Not sure about the IGUS bearings, but I had the same issue when I first assembled my 2.5 upgrade and found that the spiral wrap on the extruder cable bundle was pinching on the frame and preventing the carriage from hitting the end stop.

I tried to force the spiral wrap more tightly into the hole in the back of the carriage with no luck, so I just removed just enough of the wrap so that there is no pinching on the frame when the carriage moves all the way to the left.

I have the exact same issue and have tried multiple times to fix this. Its about 1mm to short to depress the switch reliably. I fixed this by taking 3 or 4 layers of scotch tape and placing them over the part of the carriage assembly the switch presses against. Now instead of hitting the switch 20% of the time it now works 100% of the time.

I am having the exact same issue after upgrading from 2S to 2.5. It's about 1cm short. I hear the motor struggling to move it further, but I don't see any obstructions. I can manually move it further, until the textile cable protector is hitting the RAMBO case. After I do that it's only a couple millimeters and I could glue a shim. However with 1cm if I glue something there to fill the gap then it doesn't find the first circle on the bed. Am I missing a part, or did I use the wrong part? Photos attached.

I found that if I switch to high power I can complete bed calibration. I just finished bed leveling and now I'm going to try a benchy. Also, the extruder back that I installed, the part in which the X belt sits, was the MK3 part and not the 2.5 part. Therefore it was missing the small protrusion that hits the end stop switch. Rather than print and install the 2.5 part I just glued a similar protrusion on the MK3 part and now the end stop works.

We'll see how benchy looks...

Hi, I had the same issue after finishing the assembly (it was an upgrade from MK2/S to 2.5). And I do not believe that it has anything to do with the bearings.
It is as already described above an issue due to the thicker spiral cable not providing enough space for the x-axis to connect to the x-end switch without using excessive force (due to the pressure that is created when the cable hits the frame). And of course, using high power might work, but does not the resolve the problem.
For me it is simply a design fault of the x-carriage. The printed part would have required a longer "nose" or anything to make it easier to connect with the end switch. Not sure why this has not been fixed yet by PRUSA, but I glued (using CA glue) a small piece of ABS to the x-carriage and now it is working without any problem.

Has PRUSA support commented yet on this issue?

Hi,

I had the same problem. The “nose” on the X axis component which is supposed to contact the end stop switch was 2mm short. Even after making sure that the wiring was correctly installed it wouldn’t make contact, So I used epoxy glue to stick a 2 mm shim to lengthen the nose. It works fine now.

Regards,

Steve
