[SOLVED] Extruder slipping from hotend jam

Sun Apr 29, 2018 10:57 pm

I've been having an issue with the filament slipping. If I unload the filament and put in a fresh tip that usually fixed the issue.

But now I can't seem to load the PLA grey filament. The stepper threads appear to be slipping.

What could it be?

Is it the spring screws?

I have the bondtech pulley with the lock screw nice and tight on the flat side of the motor.

My extruder motor isn't bad is it?

Thanks!

I think my hotend is jammed. I'm going to try a high temp and use a needle to clean out the hotend.

The filament is being fed to the hole. I think it's just the hole is jammed and it's giving the motor enough resistance that it skips.

This is probably a bad idea, but what if I touched a soldering iron tip to the plastic at the top of the hole?

I probably need to remove the hotend and clear whatever gunk made it down into the hole...

This looks like the problem. There's some filament stuck near the end of the E3D hotend tube.

I used my soldering iron with the pointy tip to make a hole in the blockage and used the hex key to grab the stuck filament in the tube.

That was a roller coaster. I'm glad you got it figured out.

It turns out that I also have to replace the hotend tube. I can't do a full print without some slipping which you can see the tip of the tube is slightly bent. The result is I get gaps in the print which causes the final print to break apart too easily.

I pulled out the tube with the plyers.

And then cut some tube at the same length on a breadboard.

The replacement tube reinserted easily.
